Hello!! We are almost 7 months into our travels, crazy! I finally got our YouTube channel up and going. Vlog. Check. I thought I’d be all over writing on here though. Blog. Fail.
On instagram we are still in England. YouTube went from Spain to France so we could vlog Christmas, then we will backtrack back to Wales, which was our next stop after Spain. Keeping up? I barely am some days! So… where does that leave the blog? I have this drive to go chronologically in order, which can be good. Thorough. Great for documenting our journey. But, causes me to just do nothing because going back and writing about the past 7 months sounds super intimidating! I’m barely keeping up with the editing on YouTube and the planning of adventures, not to mention just living life.
Where are we really? We are in Germany. It’s been our toughest countries in some ways. We are staying in the Harz area, up the “mountain” in Hohegeiss. It’s basically a ski town, with no snow currently. It would be a great weekend place to call home, but a whole month has not been the most ideal. That is ok, we didn’t sign up for a fairytale, but we still have to figure things out in the meantime and make them work. If anything, it has shown us what needs to be more of a priority from now on.
Where we are right this second though is 5 hours south in Munich. We are trying out our first hostel. We chose Meininger right in Munich and it’s been great! Wifi is great, people are fun, there is a kitchen we can use and our family of 6 means a private to us room as we paid for all 6 beds! We actually ended deciding last night that we should stay one more night and have a down day today. It’s good to just stop and do what we need to do or to do nothing once in a while. I was about to set myself up in our room to start working on a new video when I began to question location. I really felt I needed to be downstairs in the main lounge area. That’s where I sit now. I have so many things to share on here and so many things I can say about traveling, traveling with kids, all the logistics that come with all that, but the THING? The thing…
The thing is connection. It’s people. It’s relationships. It’s coming into each other’s lives for a reason. No matter how small. I’ve always believed in the power of a smile, a small kindness, holding a door open, etc. I’ve known that there are many, many good people around the world. And there are. Today instead of getting any editing work done, I connected. Pavlos! Hello, if you happen by this. My awesome new Greek friend. Filmmaker. Photographer. Artist. Big heart. Human. Flawed. Kind. Loving. We chatted about life. What’s really important. God. Why it feels as if He’s abandoned us at times. How it’s okay to be really mad at Him. Relationships. Photography. Writing. Not sitting on our gifts, no matter how significant they may seem, but to share them as we don’t know who we may touch with the smallest effort. Travel. Possible routes. In travel. In life. I don’t know if Pavlos got these same things from our time today, but I believe he got what he needed. The beauty of connection.
That’s where we are. This is where I am. I want to continually be where I’m meant to be. Where I can connect. Who knows, we may be connecting next.
